The mental well-being of employees is widely recognised as a critical factor in determining the success and sustainability of any organisation, more so in today’s fast-paced and demanding work environments. While physical health has traditionally been afocal point, companies are increasingly recognising that mental health too plays a vital role in fostering productivity, creativity and resilience.
Employees who feel supported in managing their mental health are not only more engaged, but also better equipped to handle challenges and contribute meaningfully to organisational goals. Thus, prioritising mental well-being is a strategic investment that can help reduce absenteeism, enhance employee satisfaction and improve overall performance in an organisation’s journey to long-term growth and success.
Renaissance Services, having long recognised the importance of mental well-being, has consistently taken proactive steps to support its employees. The establishment of a dedicated mental health committee in July 2024 marks the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at fostering a supportive environment. Since then, the company has also introduced comprehensive programmes, including regular workshops led by psychological specialists, to help employees effectively manage stress, anxiety and other workplace challenges.
By fostering a supportive culture, Renaissance aims to remove the stigma traditionally associated with mental health challenges and encourage employees to address their concerns without fear of judgment. The company offers access to confidential one-on-one counselling by highly qualified and trained counsellors, which provides employees with a safe space to discuss personal challenges and receive expert guidance. With many employees having taken advantage of the new initiative, Renaissance sees itself as a pioneer in this space in the Sultanate of Oman.
Tips to promote mental wellbeing
Encourage regular breaks: Taking short breaks during work hours helps relieve stress and improve concentration.
Work-life balance: Employers should promote a culture that supports work-life balance and avoid delegating work outside official hours.
Open communication: Encourage employees to freely talk about their feelings and mental challenges. Open channels of communication can provide the psychological support needed.
Organise programmes: Physical activity plays an important role in improving mental health. Companies can contribute to enhancing employees' mental well-being by offering sports activities and staff gatherings.
Workshops on stress management: Organising educational workshops on stress management and coping with psychological pressure can provide employees with useful tools to improve their mental health. Having access to counselling services can also be quite helpful.
Use town halls and feedback to finetune strategies: Responding positively to employee feedback through townhalls meetings enhances the sense of participation and reduces feelings of anxiety. Feedback provided by employees can also be used to finetune future strategies.
